New Delhi :

Union Minister of State Sanjeev Balyan triggered a controversy by suggesting 10 per cent reservation for students from western Uttar Pradesh in Delhi's JNU and Jamia Milia Islamia to "fix those raising anti-national slogans".

He gave this statement during a rally held in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act here on Wednesday. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was present in the rally when Balyan made the controversial statement.

Urging Rajnath Singh for a provision of reservation in both universities, Balyan said, "Sabka ilaj kar denge. Desh ke khilaf naare lagane ki kisi ki himmat nahin padegi (Will fix everyone. Nobody will have the courage to raise slogans against the country)." He also said the protests in both universities were motivated by politics.

All FIRs In Line With January 3 Incidents, No Deviation From Facts: JNU

Meanwhile, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Wednesday said all FIRs and other complaints filed with police are in line with the incidents that took place on January 3 and do not deviate from facts after an RTI response suggested discrepancies in the varsity administration's claims about vandalism in its server room.

The university said its reply to the RTI query was related to the specific location and questions sought by the applicant. It also clarified that the servers were damaged by "a group of miscreants" on January 4.

"As per the complaint filed by administration on January 3, 2020 about the incident in Centre for Information System (CIS) Data Centre, JNU has not claimed about damage to servers on that day. The RTI answers are correct and specific to the questions asked," the varsity said.
