Uttar Pradesh Assembly was adjourned today as opposition BJP and Congress members locked horns over the Centre’s Land Acquisition Bill.
The trouble broke out when Congress members wanted to raise supplementaries concerning the Land Acquisition Bill, 2014 during the Question Hour.
BJP members, however, strongly objected to it saying since it has already been passed in Lok Sabha yesterday with certain amendments, the question has lost its relevance.
“The question is now irrelevant with passage of the bill in Lok Sabha yesterday,” Radha Mohan Agarwal (BJP) said.
But Congress members were adamant on raising the issue and rushed into the well of the House disrupting the Question Hour.
After Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey said it can be discussed as the Bill has not yet become an Act, BJP members created ruckus leading to the adjournment of the House, first for 10 minutes and then for another 15 minutes.
BJP members also raised objections over English translation of the bill being provided to members.
Even after two adjournments, the furore refused to die down prompting Leader of the Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya of BSP to urge the Chair to restore order and alleged that both parties did not want a debate on it as they were anti-farmers.
BSP members staged walkout twice over the issue.
The Speaker’s requests to BJP and Congress members to restore peace went unheeded.
Congress members continuously raised slogans in the Well against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. To counter them, BJP members too barged into the Well adding to the uproar.
Sensing the mood of the members, the Speaker took up the listed agenda amid din and adjourned the House for the day around 1.30 pm.
