Uttar Pradesh Police arrests quack for infecting 58 people with HIV in Unnao

Unnao:

Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday arrested a quack — unlicensed self-proclaimed doctor — in charges of allegedly infecting at least 58 people with HIV using a single syringe to treat his patients in the state’s Unnao district.

Police have identified the accused as Rajendra Yadav. “He was arrested from a house of his relative,” said a senior police station of Banarmau police station.

The Unnao administration says five more persons said to be his patients have been declared HIV reactive.

According to police, the quack allegedly responsible for infecting 58 people with HIV, used to travel village to village on his motorbike on a call. He used to charge Rs 10 for each visit.

The spreading of HIV first came to light in July 2017, when 12 people were found to be HIV positive. Later in the year 17 more from the same are were found HIV positive.

The Unnao administration in January directed the district health department to organise a health camp after learning people from same region suffering from lethal disease. In a medical camp organised on January, doctors tested 38 more person HIV positive.
