New Delhi:

MDMK leader Vaiko on Wednesday met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and stressed that full statehood was necessary for both Delhi and Puducherry.

He, however, denied speculation that his party would work closely with the Aam Aadmi Party in Tamil Nadu.

The meeting came a day after Vaiko joined hands with Kejriwal in a Anna Hazare-led farmers’ rally against the controversial land acquisition bill in the national capital.

“I do not have any such thought. We did not discuss about it,” the MDMK leader replied to a query on whether his party and AAP would work together in the southern state, after he met Kejriwal at the Delhi Secretariat here.

Vaiko said there was no political agenda behind the meeting and it was a courtesy call in the wake of AAP registering a historic victory in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly elections.

“I have got admiration for him... The day when he won the election I made a strong statement condemning the BJP and Hindutva forces. The victory for AAP and Arvind Kejriwal has highlighted the glory of Indian democracy,” he said.

Vaiko also attacked the BJP-led NDA Government for attempting to bring amendments in the land acquisition bill and appealed to MPs cutting across party lines not to support the ordinance.
