New Delhi:

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut while reacting to the controversial poster “Free Kashmir" which was displayed at Mumbai's Gateway of India said, the protesters meant Kashmir free of restrictions not otherwise. "I read in newspaper that those who held 'free Kashmir' banner clarified that they want to be free of restrictions on internet services, mobile services and other issues,” news agency ANI quoted Raut as saying.

Nationwide outrage over the violence in the JNU campus in New Delhi found its expression in Maharashtra on Monday where protests were organised to denounce the attack on students, teachers and vandalism inside the prestigious university.

Sanjay Raut, however, clarified, 'if anyone talks of freedom of Kashmir from India then it will not be tolerated.’

Reacting sharply to the poster, former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis took to Twitter and wrote: "Protest is for what exactly? Why slogans of 'Free Kashmir'? How can we tolerate such separatist elements in Mumbai? 'Free Kashmir' slogans by Azadi gang at 2km from CMO? Uddhav ji are you going to tolerate this Free Kashmir Anti India campaign right under your nose??? (sic)," he tweeted.

On Monday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the mob attack reminded him of ‘26/11 Mumbai Attacks’. Thackeray termed those masked goons as coward. He also said that such people cannot be backed at any level. Thackery also demanded that the identities of the masked thugs must be revealed.

Protests against the violence - that had left at least 34 people, including JNU Students' Union (JNUSU) president Aishe Ghosh, injured - were held in Mumbai, Aurangabad and Pune among other cities. Political leaders led by state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also condemned the attack.
