Varanasi, the VVIP parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is facing maximum terror threat, latest intelligence inputs have said. The temple town is on the terror radar of the Lashkar-e-Toiba, the intel sources have highlighted. A latest disturbing development has added to the worries of the security agencies. News Nation has learnt that Omar Madani, the absconding Lashkar terrorist, reportedly visited Varanasi earlier in May. He stayed at a small hotel in Varanasi to recce the important places in and around the city. Madani met several people and he has been tasked by the Lashkar leadership to recruit young terrorists for the mega plan. On August 1st, Gazwa-e-Hind, a small unit associated with Lashkar had given an open threat for attack in Varanasi. The tweet called out individuals interested in meeting Madani at ‘safe bunkers’ in Varanasi. The security agencies have been put on high alert following the intel inputs.

Earlier, a terror alert was also issued across Tamil Nadu following intelligence inputs about the intrusion of a group of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists into the state. As per reports, a six member-team of the terror outfit had allegedly infiltrated into the state via sea route in Sri Lanka and moved to different cities, including Coimbatore.

In the wake of this precipitated alert, Kerala DGP Loknath Behera had also directed district police chiefs to keep utmost vigil across the state, an official release said. Behera had also asked the public to inform the police if they come across any suspicious objects or circumstance, it added.

Security was also stepped up at vital installations and crowded places, including airports, railway stations, bus stands and sites of worship like - temples, mosques or church - across Tamil Nadu. Coastal districts are on high alert to prevent any further possible intrusion, the police added.

It should be noted that there has been tight patrolling across the Coimbatore district and necessary arrangements have been put in place to avoid any untoward incident. Vehicle checks have been intensified in the city and border areas, the police said, adding that the identity or the nationality of the intruders were yet to be ascertained. Sources, however, suggest that the group comprises one Pakistani national and five Sri Lankan Tamils.
