US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania on Tuesday paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the memorial of India's Father of the Nation at Rajghat on Tuesday. The US president and the first lady laid a wreath and paid floral tributes at Rajghat. Trump also signed the visitor's book at Rajghat, and the couple also planted a sapling at the memorial.

Congress and others had criticised Donald Trump for not mentioning Mahatma Gandhi in the message written after his visit to Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad on Monday. Trump has left a message a message for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the visitors' book at the Sabarmati Ashram. "To my great friend Prime Minister Naredra Modi... Thank you for this wonderful visit," Trump wrote in the Ashram visitors' book.
The Trumps had arrived at Rajghat after a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Trump and the First Lady at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The US president was then accorded a tri-services guard of honour at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Trump's daughter Ivanka, son-in-law Jared Kushner and several top officials of the US administration were also present at the ceremony.
On the Indian side, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan were among the senior leaders present on the occasion.
