Mumbai:
37-year-old Afzal Usmani hails from Azamgarh, UP. Initially, he was a small time thief, but in 1996 he was accused of a murder, too.
In 2008, Afzal met Riyaz Bhatkal at a restaurant to plot Ahmedabad blasts.
During Ahmedabad blast probe, Mumbai police followed the trail and discovered that Afzal was an Indian Mujahideen operative. He used to work on the directives of a Sadiq Sheikh.
In 2011, after the Zaveri Baazar and Opera House blasts, Mumbai police detained Afzal’s elder brother Faiz Usmani, who died in the custody because of heart attack.
On September 20, 2013 Afzal escaped while he was taken to the court for hearing.
On October 28, finally the Maharashtra ATS arrested the notorious terrorists from Patna, Bihar.
