Wi-fi services for village panchayats by 2019: Govt to float tender soon

DoT sources told news agency PTI that the tender details will be finalised this week and will be issued once it is done.

Soon the government will be flaoting tenders for rollong out Wif-Fi services in all the village panchayats by 2019. The total expenditure outlaid for the service is estimated to be Rs 3700 crore as per official sources of the Department of Telecom (DoT). 

By the end of 2017, about 100,000 gram panchayats will have broadband services which will have a maximum speed of 1 Gbps. At this rate a file of an average hollywood or bollywood movie can be downloaded in less than 5 secs. 

DoT sources told news agency PTI that the tender details will be finalised this week and will be issued once it is done. 
The daily installations of electronic equipment have been increased manifold by over seven times from earlier 150 installations to 800 per day.

The initial wi-fi roll out will happen on Bharat Net project and the rest of the hotspots will be connected letter. Under the new telecom policy, the government has plans to increase availability of regular Internet access facility to70 crore people, from 30 crore, by 2022.
