Vihari Poddar, wife of textile tycoon and Siyaram Silk Mills director Abhishek Poddar, was arrested in Mumbai on Thursday, for trying to smuggling in diamond-studded gold jewellery worth Rs 2.35 crore in her innerwear.
The managing director of the Singapore-based Vihari Jewels was detained at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport by officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and the Directorate of Vigilance.
Vihari is learnt to have confessed, during her interrogation, that she had made 10 such trips in the past few months to smuggle gold and diamond jewellery.
The authorities have raided two of her shops in the Grand Hyatt shopping Plaza in Santracruz (E) and seized jewellery worth around Rs 4 crore.
A metropolitan magistrate court on Thursday remanded Vihari to 14-days judicial custody.
