New Delhi:

Rajdeep Singh, who is the owner of the scooter driven by Congress leader Dheeraj Gurjar with party’s general secretary Priyanka Gandhi in Lucknow as the pillion rider, has said that he will pay the challan amount himself. Singh was issued a challan amount of Rs 6,300 in Lucknow as Dheeraj Gurjar and Priyanka Gandhi were not wearing helmet during ride on December 28.

Rajdeep’s scooter was driven by Congress leader Dheeraj Gurjar to reach the residence of former IPS officer SR Darapuri, who was arrested for protesting against the amended Citizenship Act last week.

“I was going towards Polytechnic crossing when I saw Priyanka and Dheeraj Gurjar. Dheeraj requested for my scooter because Priyanka belongs to such a big family. I could not refuse to give her my vehicle”, Rajdeep was quoted as saying by News Agency ANI.

Rajdeep adds, “On December 29, I got to know about challan from the news. The challan amount was Rs 6,300. I will pay challan amount myself. I cannot take the challan amount from Priyanka or Congress.”

Earlier, Priyanka Gandhi was on her way to Darapuri's residence, accompanied by several other Congress leaders, when she was stopped by the police at Lohia Path in the Uttar Pradesh capital. She then hitched a ride on the two-wheeler driven by Gurjar.

Priyanka and Gurjar were again stopped at the Polytechnic Square and Priyanka walked to ex-IPS officer's residence from there. She later alleged that she was manhandled by the police and 'grabbed by the neck for no reason'.
