Woman Holding ‘Free Kashmir’ Placard At Mumbai JNU Protest Issues Statement, Defends Herself (Photo Credit: ANI)

Students from various colleges in Mumbai held a massive protest at the Gateway of India on Monday to condemn the violence that took place in Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). However, the controversy erupted immediately after a woman was spotted carrying a poster that read 'Free Kashmir'. BJP leaders raised strong objection against "separatist views", whereas, Mumbai police said they are looking for the woman to question her. A woman, who was holding placard ‘Free Kashmir’ in Gateway of India, on Tuesday issued a statement saying that she was voicing her solidarity for ‘basic constitutional right’ of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a video that was posted on her Facebook account, Mehak Mirza Prabhu said, “I’m not a Kashmiri, I’m a Maharashtrian, there was several placard and I saw this placard first thing came into my mind is “Kashmir people are facing problem like Internet blockade.. Its there right to live in freedom.. and so I was holding that placard which went out of proportion.”
“This is the truth behind the Lady holding the placard ‘Free Kashmir’ at Gateway protest. The picture created by entire social media came as an absolute shock to me. Placard meant freedom to express themselves, freedom from the internet lockdown which many people have been voicing for. I was voicing my solidarity for basic constitutional right. No other agenda or motive what so ever.” she added.

Mehak also apologised and urged all to spread the power of love over hate. “If by being naive in understanding the impact it would have, and in the process create this stir. I apologise. I am artist who believes in basic human compassion. Please spread let power of love over come hate,” she said.
