New Delhi:

As the citizens of Bangalore were in a festive and joyous mood amid New Year celebrations, the city witnessed some horrific scenes on Saturday night as women were molested during the celebrations at MG Road and Brigade Road in the Karnataka Capital.

Hooligans on bikes molested women and also passed lewd comments inspite of the area being well guarded with almost 1500 policemen being deployed in the area.

The Commissioner of the areas in question excused themselves as they claimed that they had not received any complaints.

“No distress calls were made. We did not receive a single call, complaining of molestation, at the city control room. No one approached cops and no case of molestation has been registered,” Sandeep Patil, Former Deputy Commissioner (Central) and Nagendra Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Command Centre, said.

Women, however, have been quoted as saying that they were severely molested and groped on the streets as the grisly images of the commotion was made available in the form of camera footage.

“Women were being accosted by young men. Cops chased the group but they returned to the spot. Women weeped and ran towards women cops. They were forced to run on the street.

Cops' actions were limited as women were also a part of the group,” a working professional who was walking towards MG road, said.
