In an effort towards minority outreach, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday met the victims of Triple Talaq. All the victims from across the state were called to gather in Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow. In the meeting, the UP CM assured the victims that the state government will give them the legal assistance in the cases pertaining to triple talaq. Yogi Adityanth announced an annual support of Rs 6,000 to the victims of triple talaq and also for Hindu divorced women till their rehabilitation, according to IANS. The state government will also provide home to homeless victims, education to their kids, scholarships and benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, CM Yogi said.

In last one year, 273 incidents of Triple Talaq have been reported in Uttar Pradesh and FIRs have been lodged in all the cases. “I thank PM Modi for abolishing this ill practice and also to the women who fought against this”, CM Yogi added.

CM Yogi lashed out at the Congress government for not taking appropriate measures during the Shah-Bano case despite Supreme Court’s decision in the matter. CM Yogi said that the state government is also committed to provide justice to Hindu women who has been abandoned.

The Chief Minister said,"Educated women should be absorbed in government jobs as per their qualifications while arrangements should also be made for providing them shelter and education under various schemes. These women should be covered under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana or the Chief Minister Arogya Scheme."

Earlier in 2019, Parliament approved the bill that makes instant triple talaq a criminal offence, after the contentious legislation was passed by Rajya Sabha following non-aligned BJD extending support and NDA constituents JD-U and AIADMK walking out. Lok Sabha had passed the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill last week and with Rajya Sabha now approving it, the practice of instant divorce by Muslim men will be punishable by jail term of up to three years.
