A large number of people on Saturday protested outside a police station in Hyderabad where the accused in the rape and murder of 27-year-old veterinary doctor were kept. The protesters demanded to handover the accused to public while some others called for severe punishment. However, the accused have been shifted to Chanchalguda Central Jail.

Police assured the protesters that they will ensure that the accused are convicted and urged the public to cooperate with them. Later, the police resorted to lathicharge in order to disperse the agitators.

Some of the protesters demanded death penalty for the accused. "It is not enough if they are taken to court. They should be handed out the same treatment that they gave to the victim,” a protester said. "If you cannot do it, hand them over to us," PTI quotes a protester as saying.
