Kolkata Knight Riders faced Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Monday.
The high-profile clash marked the return of Gautam Gambhir to Kolkata and Dinesh Karthik to Delhi.
KKR defeated DD by 71 runs in what was a pretty one sided match after DD lost three early wickets while chasing a big target of 201.
Russell and Nitish Rana powered Kolkata to 200 runs with some brutal hitting and while chasing the bowling department did a superb job in dismissing Delhi for a paltry 129.
Kuldeep Yadav and Sunil Narine, both picked up 3 wickets each and eased the KKR bowling in the second innings.
Highlights:
Nitish Rana, Man of the Match: It feels good. This is my first match for KKR. I was in good touch. This was an important knock. I had an idea what the bowler was about to bowl. My plan was to hit anything that was bowled on the body.
Dinesh Karthik: Wins keep you happy. Feels good. Touch wood, this is the kind of the day, where you make a move and it works. Wrist spinners are picked for a certain purpose. They are standing up. It's good to see. It's going well. I am getting used to. Try to separate batting from captaincy.
Gautam Gambhir: "We have to give it to KKR, they played really well. One stage we thought they couldn't get 170-175 but then getting to 200 was a good effort by them. We knew it was going to be a stiff chase as they have three quality spinners. I thought we tried our level best but we couldn't execute the plans well. We even tried bowling from round the wicket. We had different plans but it was difficult to execute the plans. The next game is important for us if we can take a win. If we get a win in Bangalore the confidence will be better. We still have 10 games left and a lot of hard work to do."
