Google dedicates doodle to Monoyer on his 181st birth anniversary with a quirky animated doodle that highlights the Monoyer chart- an eye chart that tests your visual acuity. 

Monoyer was born on May 9, 1836 developed the diopter, which is the unit of measurement for vision that is used even today. The diopter measures the distance  that you have to read from a distance. So, every row in the chart represents a different diopter, from smallest to largest.

Also the chart was given name by the opthalmologist as Monoyer chart.

He was an Associate Professor of Medical Physics at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Strasbourg in 1871. Later, he was director of the Ophthalmic Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Nancy from 1872 to 1877. He was also Professor of medical physics at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Lyon from 1877 to 190
