Nearly 100 sectors join Anti-ransomware initiative as global ransomware attacks increase by 11 per cent

The No More Ransom initiative, which was launched one year ago by McAfee, Kaspersky Lab, the Dutch National police and Europol, has attracted more than 100 partners as major ransomware attacks continue to dominate the news, hitting businesses, governments and individuals globally.

Recently, private sectors Abelssoft, AscoraGmbh, Barclays, Bitsight, Bournemouth University, CERT.BE, Clarinet, CSA SINGAPORE, ESTSecurity, Fortinet, Global Forum on Cyber Expertise, Interworks, Korean Internet & SECURITY aGENCY, TWCERT/CC, University of Porto and Vpn mentor have joined the initiative. Four new law enforcement agencies have also joined from Czech Republic, Greece, Hong Kong and Iran. 

Global ransomware attacks increased by over 11 per cent in the 12 months.The attack has soared since 2012, with criminals lured by the promise of profit and ease of implementation.

According to a report by Kaspersky Lab, the "total number of users who encountered ransomware between April 2016 and March 2017 rose by 11.4 per cent compared to the previous 12 months, from 2,315,931 to 2,581,026 users around the world".

In May the WannaCry attack claimed more than 300,000 business victims across 150 countries in its first few days, Europol said.

The no more ransom platform now is available in 26 languages with the most recent being Bulgarian, Chinese, Czech, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Malay, Norwegian, Swedish, Tamil and Thai.
