Washington:
Knee-length socks, which once conquered an empire, now seem to be fading into history, as British men today prefer wearing ankle socks, ultra short sports socks or no socks at all.
Demand for the long woollen socks has fallen with modern lightweight shoes making them impractical and uncomfortable, the Daily Express reported.
According to Ed Watson, of Debenhams stores, while some men still refuse to part with tradition, knee-high socks are now worn primarily by school children and Swiss yodelling champions.
