New Delhi:

Filmmaker Muzaffar Ali and his designer wife Meera showcased an exotic Awadh inspired couture collection on the day two of India Bridal Fashion Week (IBFW) in New Delhi, impressing with designs that were devoid of typical bridal bling.

Titled 'Pearls on Oriental Forms', the collection saw models sashaying down the ramp gracefully in lehengas, shararas, sarees, anarkalis and parsi pyjamas.

Keeping the colour palette subtle with hues of white, beige, peach and light green was a conscious choice for Meera, who wanted to take a break from the "typical wedding colours".

"Our inspiration has always been Awadh and this time too we kept true to our roots. We tried to break from the typical red, orange and pink, which was a challenge.

"This is the first time we have experimented with pastel shades. With this collection, I picture an evolved, elegant and understated bride who is ready to experiment," Meera told PTI.

The collection was noted for being quite wearable by many and was a breather after first day's high-on-bling couture.

Meera brought the spirit of Awadh alive with her intricate chikan, zardozi work on georgette and velvet fabrics.     The designer also teamed long embroidered jackets with sarees and shararas, giving a contemporary look to the outfits.

Adding to the structured clothes was the perfect combination of jewellery like maang-tikkas, naths, and
delicate necklaces.

For their men's collection, the duo kept it safe and simple with black and white bandh galas over fitted pants and sherwani.

Meera did not have any Bollywood celebrity walking the ramp for them.

Meera's show was followed by Rina Dhaka and Jyotsna Tiwari.

Sophie Chaudhary opened Dhaka's show. She was dressed in a mirror work bustier with an attached panel which was teamed up with a patchwork sharara. Patchwork, gotha work and traditional kamdani work ruled Dhaka's collection. Dhaka was high on nude jharoka embroidery.

Prateik Babbar and his "Ishaq" co star Amyra turned show stoppers for Dhaka. Prateik was dressed in a velevet sherwani with heavy goldwork on the shoulders while Amyra was in a shimmery sharara.
Tiwari had Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez as the show stopper. She walked the ramp in a hot pink strapless dress with slits and gold embroidery. The outfit was teamed with pencil fit pants.

Entitled 'ELOHIM', Tiwari's wedding trousseau saw well-fitted gowns, lehengas teamed with cholis, shararas and long jackets over well-fitted pants.
