A new jumping spider species has been named after Karl Lagerfeld for its distinct resemblance with the late fashion mogul. According to The Guardian, Queensland Museum arachnologist has helped identify five new species of tiny brushed jumping spiders out of which one has been named after Karl Lagerfeld.

Arachnologist Danilo Harms, said the spider with its distinct look much like the fashion designer’s signature looks in black sunglasses, 'downplayed' black-and-white colours made it a good choice to name after Lagerfeld.

“Jotus karllagerfeldi is a black and white spider which we looked at and instantly thought of Karl Lagerfeld and his signature look, as the spider has large black eyes, which reminded us of sunglasses and its black and white front legs were reminiscent of Lagerfeld’s kent collar,” he said.

While most jumping spiders have bright red or blue colourings, this particular spider stands out, due to its entirely black and white design, Harms added.

“The animal reminded us with its colours of the reduced style of Karl Lagerfeld’’ he said.

For example, we associate the black leg links with the gloves he always wore.”

The spider, which measures just 4-5mm, has officially been named Jotus karllagerfeldiI.
