Sabyasachi Mukherjee faces ire of netizens; here's why his Instagram post created uproar

New Delhi:

Sabyasachi Mukherjee is the first name that comes to mind when we talk about celebrity bridal dressing. The ace fashion designer who  has designed bridal lehenga, saree for celebs from Anushka Sharma, Deepika Padukone to Priyanka Chopra and now has also expanded his business to jewellery designing recently faced the ire of many netizens on Instagram.

The designer shared a rather unpleasant comment on women who are 'overdressed' as he termed them as 'wounded', 'bleeding inside'.
The aforementioned says, "If you see a woman 'overdressed', caked with makeup, armoured with jewellery, it is most likely that she is wounded. Bleeding inside, silently."

The designer to support his opinion quoted Mrs Havisham from Charles Dicken's novel, Great Expectation.
Sabyasachi's post has garnered over 16,000 likes but also was called out by women, influencers, fashion bloggers for being disgraceful to women who loves to dress up.

"This is absolute rubbish. Please don't associate your brand with such thoughts and judgments," read a comment while another wrote: "Oh God no. Please don't make stupid blanket statements like that in a bid to 'romanticize' bullshit. Sometimes a girl just likes her lipstick and jewelry for no absolute reason except that she does!"

Some even termed it was a kind of publicity stunt.

The disgber after facing much backlash made an apology post. In his apology, Sabyasachi said that his comment was "intended as a message of love and empathy and a call to look beyond exterior appearances". It, however, was misconstrued as it wasn't "articulated correctly" in Sabyasachi's words.

Also, Sabyasachi added in his statement that he is aware of the fact that his message wasn't conveyed in an appropriate manner. "And for that, I would like to accept blame and offer an unconditional apology," he added.
