Are you suffering from high cholesterol? Include nuts, including almonds, in your daily platter of meal. Nuts, according to medical and health experts, are said to have several health benefits. And among them, if almonds are your choicest of nuts, you have a reason to smile. Almonds has several health benefits. Regular intake of it helps to reduce cholesterol level owing to the rich contents of healthy fats, high dietary fibre, protein, magnesium and Vitamin E. So, add them in your daily diet and make it your daily pill.

The right way to have almonds

Have them every morning. But first, soak almonds overnight. In the morning, drain the water away and peel them clean before you have them.

How does almonds work to reduce cholesterol level in the body?

The properties in almonds gather cholesterol from tissues, like the arteries, and transport it out of the body.

“HDL (high-density lipoprotein) is very small when it gets released into circulation. It’s like a garbage bag that slowly gets bigger and more spherical as it gathers cholesterol from cells and tissues before depositing them in the liver to be broken down,” said Penny Kris-Etherton, a professor at the Pennsylvania State University.

Researchers from the Pennsylvania State University found that almonds may not only help boost levels of good or HDL cholesterol but also improve the way it removes the cholesterol from the body. A research shows that eating almonds resulted in increased a-1 HDL by 19 per cent as well as improved HDL function by 6.4 per cent — indicating a decrease in the overall risk of cardiovascular disease.

If you love almonds, eat a handful of the soaked nuts every morning and stay healthy.
