World Vegan Day 2018: Five food latent with protein

Since 1984, World Vegan Day is celebrated as an annual event by vegans all around the world on the first day of November. This day is marked to state the benefits of veganism for humans, non-human animals, and for the natural environment. However, one thing still remains abliss with the fact that vegans are often flooded with the question of where they get their protein from.

Today on World Vegan Day, we debunk the negative stereotype surrounding veganism. So, the next time you are triggered with the same annoying question you can hit back at them with these protein-rich vegan foods:

  1. Greens: The good old greens which you associated with vegans are packed with protein punch. Vegetables such as spinach, kale are very rich in protein. In fact, one cup of cooked spinach has about 7 grams of protein while two cups of cooked kale, 5 grams, the list goes on.
  2. Quinoa: This flowering plant food is a god-sent both for vegans and meat-eaters. It is gluten free, with one cup containing about 9 grams of protein and they also make a versatile, delicious breakfast, lunch.
  3. Non-diary milk: No milk no problem. Milk from soy, almond contains about 9 gram of protein per cup. You can with some fortified cereal and fruits plus they also make the best lactose-intolerance food.
  4. Hemp: If you are among those people who go all green at the same time don’t really go along with soy either, then hemp is your next food-buddy. Sold as a dairy alternative or as seeds, hemp is one of very few plant proteins that supply you with all the essential amino acids, acids your body can't produce on its own to build muscle and create more protein.
  5. Avocadoes: You can call it a fruit or a vegetable but you can’t avoid calling avocadoes a source of protein. Only 4 g of avocado protein contains all nine essential amino acids, the amino acids your body can't produce on its own to build muscle hence creating more protein, in addition to heart- and brain-healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

Other vegan, protein rich food are tofu, lentils, beans, tempeh among many others.
