New Delhi:

News for coffee lovers, yummy or yikes, we will not get into it.

The picturesque, beautiful Coorg district of Karnataka will soon start churning out the world’s most expensive coffee that would be made from the faeces (dung) of the civet cat.

Civet coffee, or Luwark coffee as it is also known is the most expensive coffee in the world and it is so because the process of its production is very unusual.

Civet coffee is produced by coffee beans digested by the civet cat. The excreta of the cat is collected and processed to make the coffee. The other major factor that makes it the most expensive coffee is its nutritional value.

According to reports, locating the waste of the cat and processing and quality certification also incur high charges thereby adding to its high-cost factor.

No wonder Civet coffee is considered an elite beverage meant for the elite and is priced accordingly. It is consumed across Gulf nations and Europe with a price tag of whopping Rs 20,000-25000 per kg.

Coorg Consolidated Commodities (CCC), a start-up has begun the production of the luxury coffee and is planning to open a cafe to serve the coffee locally.
