New Delhi:

Contact lens today is becoming a fad. Lens are now worn not just for better vision but also to uplift the look. Wearing contact lens can enhance a person’s countenance just by the change of the eye lens colour. However, unlike glasses which you can easily slide off anytime, wearing contact lens comes with many common mistakes. From wearing it in your sleep to wearing them beyond the expiration date. These mistakes can leave irreplaceable damage to the eyes rather than improving the vision.

1.Following are the few mistakes generally committed when wearing contact lens: Sleeping with your contact lens: One must know that wearing contact lens has their safe time period to be worn. Many contact lens wearers make the mistake of wearing beyond the extended time. One common mistake is the habit of sleeping in with the contact lens. They hence wake up with dry, blurry vision which are hugely damaging for the eyes. Prolonged wearing of contact lens deprives the cornea of oxygen. It hence leads to irritation, discomfort and at worst a bad eye infection. Even if manufacturers claim it is safe that you can sleep in with their contact lens always remember to remove them before sleeping.

  2. Taking a shower with your contact lens: Taking a shower with your contact lens might seem pretty harmless. However, when the water gets in contact with the contact lens it can irritate your eyes. Most tap water has microorganisms such as microorganism Acanthamoeba, which can cause an extremely painful infection and potentially lead to blindness. Contact lens are also known to absorb water and hence change the shape of the contact lens altogether. It is hence always wise to remove them before your contact with water.

  3. Wearing contact lens past expiration date: Just when you think you are saving money with those old contact lens you are actually piling up your medical bills. Old lenses become coated with germs and the continuous use of solution, proteins, and other residues. These unwanted residues can lead to serious eye infection. A study has confirmed that the solution containing the lenses can go bad, because it can become more acidic and more alkaline. It hence leads to extreme discomfort, irritability and possibly eye damage.

  4. Not replacing your contact case: It is not just the contact and the solution that needs changing. According to many studies, contact lens cases should be cleaned thoroughly with solution every day, and replaced at least every three months. Not changing the case can lead to germs growing on the case and on the lens. It hence can increase the risk of eye infection which can be very unsettling. Make sure to change the contact along with the case as recommended. It is better to be safe than sorry!
