New Delhi:

In an unusual and health-conscious move, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday issued a statement, imposing a ban on the sales of biscuits in and around the ministry. The order, which has been approved by Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, also directed the department to serve healthy snacks like roasted chana, almonds, dates and walnuts instead of biscuits during the official meetings.

A circular released by the Health Ministry on Friday said, "The Health and Family Welfare Minister has desired that healthy snacks only to be served in official meeting and biscuits are to be avoided".

"Henceforth, therefore, biscuits shall not be dispensed through the departmental canteen and healthy snacks like lahiya channa, khajoor (dates), bhuna channa (roasted channa), badam (almond) and akhrot (walnuts) will be served in the official meetings in the department," it added.

Moreover, the ministry continued to stick to its earlier decision of not using plastic water bottles in any departmental meetings. The exemplary move by the ministry will surely benefit the health of its ministers as avoiding biscuits and other high fibres and maida containing foods will lower their blood sugar levels naturally.
