New Delhi:

Repeating daily tasks or certain other things indicate early signs of Dementia, suggests research.

Researchers at The Alzheimer’s Association have found out in a recent study that repeating daily tasks like shaving or collecting items, asking questions which have already been answered, or forgetting where you put certain things may be detecting early signs of Dementia.

Dementia is a disease related to the brain which reduces the ability to think and remember, affecting a person’s daily life.

Depression can also be looked upon as a sign of Dementia. Mood swings or a shift in personality can, too, point to signs of the disease.

The researchers said, “The main cause of behavioural symptoms in Alzheimer's, and other progressive dementias, is the deterioration of brain cells which causes a decline in the individual's ability to make sense of the world. In the case of repetition, the person may not remember that she or he has just asked a question or completed a task.”

They also said, “Environmental influences also can cause symptoms or make them worse. People with dementia who ask questions repeatedly may be trying to express a specific concern, ask for help, or cope with frustration, anxiety or insecurity.”

According to a study report, nearly 47 million people in the world are suffering from the brain condition, with India solely contributing 4.1 million to the count. This rate is expected to double up by 2035.
