Earth Day is celebrating across 193 countries to demonstrate and promote environmental awareness and calls for the protection of our planet. But are we really keeping up to the ‘name’ of this day that calls for an awareness for the protection of the ecosystem we inhabit? Every day, species around the planet go extinct while many more become and remain endangered due to habitat loss, poaching, human activities, and climate change. To maintain a healthy ecological balance on this earth, the part of animals is equally important to keep the cycle of life alive.

Every day we are reminded that animals such as polar bears, snow leopards, tigers are on the brink of extinction. What we tend to ignore is that, there are thousands of animals equally on the verge of being wiped out unless we change our attitude towards treating this mother earth. Below animals are just a handful of them:

Sea lion: Don't be shocked when you find the rocks on shores barren with time because at the pace humans are killing them off quick and rapid, sea lions will soon be an animal only remembered in history books. Sea lions such as the Steller Sea Lion and the Australian Sea Lion are being endangered because humans for some reason thinks that these sea lions are eating their fish while they at the same also continue to fish, hypocrisy much?

Rhinoceros: An animal whose only danger is, but humans, these animals are hunted for their horns either for traditional Asian medicine or to keep as home décor or ornamental carvings.

Zebras: Shocked much? This black and white stripped animal, icon of the African plains has also been included in the endangered animal list. However, of all the zebra species of zebra in Africa, including the Plains zebra, Mountain zebra, the Grevy's zebra is listed at the most endangered. It is estimated that there are only about 2,500 Grevy's left.

Pangolin: Termed by CNN as one of the most trafficked animals in the world, this nocturnal creature found in Asia and Africa known to slurp up ants and termites are also dwindling at a rapid pace. Hunted for fashion accessories, meat and traditional medicine, the pangolins are also one among the thousands of animals that have sadly made an entry into the list of endangered animals.
