New Delhi:

Goodbye cleaning products, stockpile ketchup bottles?  A new cleaning tip that is making rounds on the internet promises to take away all your ‘full-on’ effort of scrubbing and brushing woes. Shared on Facebook user by one Jo Nichol, with two before and after images, the photo of rusty and then shiny chair takes the importance of ketchup as a cleaning tool to another level.

With impeccable results, the hack, shared on Facebook group Mrs Hinch Cleaning tips have gathered more than 1,200 likes and more than 5,000 comments with many calling the trick ‘amazing’ and ‘brilliant’.

While the ‘five minute’ hack does show cleaning wonders before our eyes some users expressed concern over the fact of what ketchup can do to our body given how effective it is for steel. ‘Doesn’t this make you think, what does ketchup do to our guts’ and ‘worries me what we put in our bodies’ questioned one. One person claimed that the condiment is generally useful for cleaning, commenting: ‘Ketchup is also good for cleaning stainless steel sink draining boards.’

The hack was also posted in 2015 by a Facebook group showing how ketchup can be used to yield shiny-furniture.

Ketchup contains an acetic acid content of around 4%, from the vinegar used in the recipe. Because of its high viscosity the condiment can be used for shining brass, copper and silverware.
