Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Lord Hanuman (also named as Bajrang Bali, Maruti, Pawanputra, and Kesari Nandan). Lord Hanuman is the symbol of energy and strength. Hanuman Jayanti is one of the famous Hindu festivals which is celebrated on full moon day during the month of Chaitra. This year, Hanuman Jayanti falls on April 8. If you want to terminate all your sorrows, then you must worship Lord Hanuman.
It is to be noted that Lord Hanuman was born to Vanaraja Kesari and Anjana. It is believed that Muni Vishwamitra had cursed Anjana that she will give birth to a monkey. But Anjana worshipped Lord Shiva and urged him to be a part of her son. Thus, it is believed that Lord Hanuman is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Lord Hanuman is a great devotee of Lord Sri Rama.
As mentioned above, Hanuman Jayanti falls on Chaitra Purnima. Hanuman Jayanti falls on Wednesday, April 8 this year. According to Drikpanchang, the Purnima Tithi will start at 12.07 PM on April 7 and will end at 8.04 AM on April 8.
On Hanuman Jayanti, devotees offer vermilion or red cloth, flowers, and sweets including laddu and halwa to Bajrang Bali. Devotees also visit Lord Hanuman temple, carry out processions and hold religious gatherings. After worship, devotees offer Prasad to others. However, due to the coronavirus lockdown across the country, there will be no processions and religious gatherings.

It is worth mentioning here that Hanuman Jayanti is called Hanumath Jayanthi in Tamil Nadu. According to the Gregorian calendar, Tamil Hanuman Jayanti falls in January or December. On the other hand, Hanuman Jayanti is known as Hanuman Vratam in Karnataka. It is observed on Shukla Paksha Trayodashi during Margashirsha month.
