Is Govind Sanctuary in your summer holiday plan list? Well, Govind Sanctuary may not be the right option now. You may be planning for an escape from the scorching summer heat but one of the most loved summer holiday destinations, Govind Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park is closed for trekkers till August 31.

Situated in Uttarkashi district of Uttaranchal, Govind Sanctuary is well known for the beauty of its snow-clad peaks and glaciers.

Considering safety concerns for tourists and trekkers, Deputy Director of the Sanctuary R P Mishra told reporters that no permission for trekking to Borasu, Rupin and Wali passes besides, Ruinasar and Devkyara will be granted till August 31.

The decision came after a trekker from Maharashtra and a porter were killed recently in the course of separate expeditions in the park area.

Where is Govind Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park

This is a paradise for wildlife lovers attracting many trekkers. The beauty of the place can lift the heart and spirit of every visitor. The beautiful landscape of the place, the lush greens during rainy season makes it an idyllic destination.

This place is situated 230 km from Dehradun and can be reached by air, railways and road.

Main attractions are the Snow Leopard, Himalayan Black Bear and the Musk Deer, to name just a few.

Har-ki-Doon is one of the most popular tourist attractions that gives you a spectacular view of untouched valleys. Har-ki-Doon is one of the most rewarding trek for adventurous trekkers. It remains covered with snow from December to March.

Another popular attraction is the high altitude mesmerising Marinda Tal lake situated 3 kms from Har-ki-Doon.

When is the best time to visit Govind Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park?

April to June and September to November are considered to be the best visiting time.
Travelling or going for a trek here could be a challenge during the rainy season as the roads can become slippery and slushy.
