New Delhi:

We often use the phrase ‘hit the jackpot’, without necessarily having to mean it, but for this particular woman, this phrase turned into a reality, figuratively! Debra Goddard a 55-year-old charity worker living in London bought a glass ring from a boot sale some 33 years ago for £10 (Rs. 920). The price of the ring was only discovered, when her mother, June Boyle, who has lost all her money to fraudsters suggested she sell the ‘presumed’ glass ring in return for a few pounds.

When trying to pawn the ‘glass ring’ it was the jeweller who revealed that it was actually a 26.27-carat diamond worth £740,000, which is about Rs. 6.8 crores! Her years of charity work has finally been rewarded!

Talking to The Sun about the discovery, Debra said,  “When I went to the jeweller he nearly fainted and said, ‘Do you know what this is? It’s a diamond’. I sat up all night looking at it, wondering what to do.”

She decided to auction it with the help of Sotheby’s. After deducting the auction costs, she took home £470,000 (~ INR 4.3 crores). She used this money to fund vacations to Barbados and Las Vegas. She says,

“It’s karma for the bad things that happened in our lives and my mum being robbed of everything.”

She has also taken the chance to write a book titled ‘Car Boot Diamond’, for her unforeseen luck of events, which she also states will go to the charity she works for.
