The Citizenship Act of 1955 which got amended again in 2019 came as a whole different outlook particular for the northeast states as the bill changes the definition of illegal immigrants and proposes citizenship to the illegal influx of immigrants particularly from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh etc who’re either Hindu, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, Buddhists or Parsis and have been living in India for a minimum of 6 years.
The few months have seen chain of protests and pandemonium from the 'said' states opposing the passing of the bill. While many take to the streets as a means of their protest, a 19-year-old boy from Assam is initiating his own disapproval of the bill by taking inspiration from the current Ranveer Singh movie, Gully Boy.
Taking to social media to voice his disapproval, the 19-year old boy identified as Rahul Rajkhowa posted a video on YouTube in which he can be seen rapping about the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and how it affects the state that he is from, North-East.
Rahul Rajkhowa’s video clearly takes a hit at the government for its indifference to the N.E states. The young rapper conjured issues of vilified events such as 15 Meghalaya miners stuck in an illegal coal mine and also hints at how the govt neglects people from their own country but wants to ironically help foreign citizens. Last but not the least, young Rahul points out how the bill will affect different areas of the North-East is going if the bill is put to action.
Just hours after he posted the content, his video has gone viral and throngs of support from all walks of life have come pouring in hoping that the government will re-contemplate about the bill and the see the unforeseen plight that will befall on the states of the northeast.
