New Delhi:

Rajesh Babu is not just another policeman trying to enforce the 21-day coronavirus lockdown in India. This Chennai cop has become a celebrity with national and international media writing about him. So what makes Babu so special? It is the bright, red-colored 'corona helmet' used by Babu that has gone viral! (Coronavirus LIVE Updates)

Yup, at a time when videos of police brutality made headlines, Rajesh babu used this innovative method to convince people to stay indoors. Video clips of him convincing people to adhere to the lockdown are being shared widely on social media. People are lauding the Chennai policeman for such a cool way of spreading awareness about coronavirus.

"If you come out, I will come in," Babu tells anyone violating the lockdown. With that corona helmet, Babu has been able to make people understand the point of lockdown.

Such is the fame of the corona helmet that even Bollywood's ace director-producer Karan Johar expressed his wish to own one! Behind this cool innovation is the creative genius of B Gowtham. A city-based artist, Gowtham came up with the idea and made the corona helmet in just Rs 500.

He used a discarded helmet, paper mache as all shops were closed due to the lockdown. The idea behind the helmet was to give a visual representation of the virus so that people understand the gravity of the situation. The helmet has similar bulb-like spikes that are similar to the microscopic version of the novel coronavirus.

"The best part was that Inspector Rajeesh Babu of the Villivakkam station himself chose to wear the helmet and man the temporary check-post," Gowtham was quoted as saying by WION. Meanwhile, harsh lockdowns aimed at halting the march of the coronavirus have extended worldwide as the death toll soared past 35,000 and new waves of US outbreaks pushed the nation's containment efforts to the brink.

Despite slivers of hope in stricken Italy and Spain, the tough measures that have confined some two-fifths of the globe's population to their homes were broadened. Moscow and Lagos joined the roll call of cities around the globe on Monday with eerily empty streets, while Virginia, Maryland, and Kansas became the latest US states to announce emergency stay-at-home orders.
