As India battles the coronavirus crisis with the stringent lockdown and curfews, a man in Kerala has set a purrfect example of how to be a good hooman to one's pets. Meet N Prakash, a resident from Kerala's Ernakulam, who has become darling of the internet with his unusual court victory for his cats! While pet lovers across the world are troubled over supplies and other essentials, Prakash decided to take the matter in his hand and approached the Kerala High Court for cookie supply for his cats. Sounds unbelievable? Well, it's true. As true as the clear blue sky in this lockdown. Not only did he moved the court but he also won the legal battle. (Coronavirus Outbreak Live)
In the first week of April, Prakash's son fell ill and he realised that there was no one in the house who could go for groceries and other essential supplies. He applied for a special curfew pass to drive around in the city, but the local authorities rejected his request. After two rejections, Paraksh moved the Kerala High Court, which agreed to hear his plea. After the hearing via video conferencing, Justices AK Jayasankaran Nambiar and Shaji P Chaly ruled in Prakash's favour.
In the order, the Kerala High Court said that 'over the last seven decades of working, our democratic Constitution, we have focused, primarily, on the rights available to our citizens. We have conveniently forgotten that the human species is not alone on this planet and that there are other claimants to the bounty that nature has to offer.'
The High Court asked the state government to allow the petitioner to travel to purchase "Meo-Persian biscuits for his 3 cats." The petitioner had alleged that he was denied a vehicle pass to travel for the same. In a beautiful remark for Prakash's feline friends, the High Court said, 'while we are happy to have come to the aid of the felines in this case, we are also certain that our directions will help avert a 'CATastrophe' in the petitioner’s home.'
