From using toy guns to the cold end of a baton stick, bananas to even 'paper', there have been funny but not funny instances about robbery heists. An unsual incident that happened in the city of Beersheba, Israel, where an unidentified 47-year-old managed to rob not just one but two banks using nothing but the incredibly nutritious avocado will make you wonder if bank robbers have run out of heist ideas.

So, the big question is, how did the 47-year-old managed to rob not just once but twice using the fruit? The Times of Israel reports that the now accused walked into the Postal Bank in a Beersheba, armed with a humble avo which he painted black in the guise to look as a grenade and telling the clerk that if she didn't hand over NIS 16,000 (AUD$6,733), he would detonate his grenade.

According to the reports, the robber held a small black object in his right hand, and insisted that he would "throw this grenade" if she didn't comply to which she did and he managed to get away.

Apparently believing his beginners luck, he went back five days later to a different Postal Bank branch, carrying the same small black item, and making the same threats demanding NIS 12,000 (US $3,356) and walking out the same way.

What was then his mistake that led to his arrest? Cell phone! While he was smart enough to hide his identity wearing a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and an eye patch to avoid detection he forgot that cell phones can be traced.

Police in no time tracked his mobile phone, which pinged off the right towers to place him at the scene of the crime.

Well, it looks like avocados are after all better off as a fruit than a weapon.
