The ‘Mountain of Hell’ race sure did become a mountain of hell for some 700 adrenaline cyclists. The bike race which took place Sunday on a glacier at Les Deux Alpes ski resort in France ended in utter chaos after a crash let the hundred others behind to came toppling on one another.

The annual Mountain of Hell race was held in France at the Les Deux Alpes ski resort on 28-30 June and saw some 700 riders navigate dizzying descents down icy cliffs and through rock and dirt, with a total vertical drop of 2,500m. The race which seemingly glided off smooth saw no issue turned into utter chaos when two bikes crashed into each other causing the others behind to tumble on one another causing a huge pileup.

Miraculously, no cyclists were seriously injured during the chaos and despite the chaos, Mountain of Hell 2019 still managed to declare Frenchman Killian Bron the winner of the race.

“It was about 125km/h on the glacier, there were 1000 people around me,” Mr Bron said.

“You had to be in it, no choice. (There is) much anticipation and (you can’t) let yourself run on adrenaline, you have to reason, to do things intelligently to finish in front.”

The ‘Mountain of Hell’ event takes place every year at the end of June.
