New Delhi:

Food cycle and biological hierarchies were done away with when a bat was strangulated, choked and then engulfed by spider in US’ Texas. Pictures shared by Annette Alaniz Guajardo gave goosebumps as this bizarre assault on a comparatively bigger bat by spider is beyond explanation.

Annette Guajardo said that she was on her way back on home when she saw a bat, trapped and fluttering for life, in the web of a black and yellow garden spider, reported ABC news.

Matt Bertone, an Entomologist with the NCSU Plant Disease and Insect Clinic, told ABC11 that Bat-eater spider was ‘Argiope aurantia’ which feeds on flies, bees, other insects and larger animals.

The ‘Argiope aurantia’ is commonly known as the yellow garden spider, black and yellow garden spider, golden garden spider, writing spider, zigzag spider, corn spider, or McKinley spider. It is commonly found in United States, Hawaii, Southern Canada, Mexico and Central America.
