New Delhi:

Call it a very poor joke during a very bad time, a 25-year old man who gave his Wi-Fi username as Join Hizbul Mujahedeen led cops on wild hound chase only to find out that it was a ‘prank’. A 34-year-old software engineer neighbour, who was jostled to his feet after seeing the Wi-Fi’s username informing the cops about the odd network name.

According to TOI, the police came to check for the possible addresses in his neighbourhood in Delhi only to find out that that they couldn’t trace the address and that local cybercrime unit was called in. Rummaging through the list of possible addresses, the local cybercrime managed to contact a telecom shop owner, Gulshan Tiwari who later confirmed that he had a Wi-Fi connection but had no idea beyond that.

After the thorough investigation, however, Tiwari told the police that his elder son had set up the Wi-Fi and they need to call him in. Their effort paid off after the police when talking to the son admitted to giving the ‘alarming’ username. Tiwari’s son a 25-year-old added that he was fed up of people connecting to their Wi-Fi for free and thought setting up a scary name would deter freeloaders.

DCP (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse revealed to TOI that no reprehensible activities were found running on the Tiwari’s Wi-Fi network and he was let go of any charges apart from the cops reprimanding him for the username, we are guessing. He did apparently change the username.
