This misplacing of parcel is literally in another level, or should we say another country? One Chandigarh woman, Balwinder Kaur who had wanted to send her courier of blood pressure medicines to her mother in Chaina village of Faridkot district in Punjab found out that her parcel is not likely to arrive anytime at the mentioned destination anytime soon.

Writing down the correct address on the parcel box Kaur was told that the delivery would be made in two-three working days. The parcel, however never made it to Kaur’s mother because it had been delivered to Beijing in China instead.

Kaur told TOI that she has filed a complaint about her misplaced parcel at District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum. “On tracking the consignment number through Internet, I was surprised to note that the parcel reached Beijing owing to wrong sorting of the staff at the post office and not reading the correct address,” Kaur mentions.

Following the blunder, the GPO at Sector 17 has been asked to reportedly pay Rs 5,000 to Kaur for ‘deficieny in services’. The National Sorting Hub department of General Post Office (GPO) at Sector 17, Chandigarh, have however argued that the postal officers are exempted from any liability for loss, wrong delivery and damage of goods.

After a thorough investigation, the forum directed the GPO to pay Rs 2,500 to Kaur as compensation and an additional Rs 2,500 as litigation expenses.
