New Delhi:

The protests against the recent CBSE exam paper leak and the demand for justice to students are gaining strength across the country. Trying to salvo its image and making efforts to damage control the situation amid the lapse in the system, the Central Board of Secondary Education announced re-examination of the papers leaked. But the protest against re-examination is also growing.

The Delhi Police is also carrying out a special investigation into the matter to nail the culprit. But political voices too are rising amid the cries against injustice and the demand to sack the CBSE chairman and the HRD minister. A political party, in fact, has called for boycott of the re-examinations while some parents demand cancellation of re-examinations, saying students should not be made to suffer for corruption by the CBSE.

Protest against any wrong is justified. However, amid the din, are we pushing our protest and demand in the right direction? Do we have our target right? Truly, there is a lapse in the system in the case of any leak, be it examination papers of other important documented reports. But are we ready for a change in the system? Will re-examination solve the problem or is boycotting of it the solution? Will sacking of CBSE chairperson address the issue?

This is not the first occurrence of such an “unfortunate” incident. HRD Minister Javadekar told reporters that the exam paper leak was an “unfortunate” incident and nobody would go “scotfree”. Haven’t we heard such rhetoric before?

The future of the students is important and protest a strong weapon to rap any injustice, and the authorities concerned surely are accountable. There is no question of who is to be blamed. But failing to rise in the right direction and simply crying for adulterated milk would be more detrimental than helpful.

As anger mounts and protests rise in the heat of the situation, shouldn’t we look for a solution and not merely shout out to be heard for the voice to die down soon after.
