Popular Haryanvi dancer Sapna Chaudhary's taking a political plunge by joining Congress party from a storm caught the fancy of many, both fans and critics. The actress further silenced everyone by denying her involvement in the party and politics. Speculations are still ripe that the former Big Boss contestant has every possibility to contest Lok Sabha Elections 2019.
The film industry both Bollywood and regional and TV has had a history of celebs who have joined politics. Here are the big names who turned politician in the current election season.
Urmila Matondkar joined the Congress in New Delhi on March 27, 2019. Matondkar, who shot to fame as a child star in ‘Masoom’ and went on to became a popular actress with movies like Rangeela, Satya, Pinjar is likely to be named the Congress candidate for the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat.
Bollywood actress Jaya Prada joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. According to sources, the former Samajwadi Party leader may contest Lok Sabha elections from Rampur against Azam Khan who has been named by the SP its candidate from the constituency.
A Bengali movie actress and model, Nusrat Jahan she will contest elections for the first time in 2019. Nusrat did her first movie with Jeet in 2011. She has subsequently done movies like Crisscross, Bolo Dugga Maiki, Kelor Kirti, Har Har Byomkesh, Jamai 420 opposite A- listers. She will be contesting for TMC from Basirhat, which is widely expected to be a tough seat.
Mimi Chakraborty, a renowned Tollywood star is all set to make her political debut this year. Mimi will be fighting the upcoming Lok Sabha polls under Trinamool’s banner from Jadavpur. Although Mimi will be contesting from Jadavpur, she is originally from Jalpaiguri and her Kolkata connection started from her college days, when she did her graduation from Ashtosh
Television actor Shilpa Shinde joined the Congress in the presence of its Mumbai unit chief Sanjay Nirupam in February 2019. Shilpa said that she was keen to contest elections, but it is not clear if she will contest Lok Sabha or wait for the state Assembly, both of which are scheduled for this year.

Sitting MP and film actor Hema Malini wuill be contesting for the Mathura Lok Sabha seat on a BJP ticket. The 'Dream Girl' was a Rajya Sabha MP twice, first from 2003 to 2009 and then from 2011 to 2012. She had been a member of various parliamentary standing committees, including those for the External Affairs Ministry, Transport, Tourism, Culture, Women Empowerment, Information and Broadcasting.
