India, today, is observing former president APJ Abdul Kalam’s first death anniversary. Dr Kalam, who was also known as the the ‘missile man’ and ‘People’s President’, passed away last year while delivering a lecture at the IIM-Shillong in Meghalaya due to cardiac arrest. In 1997, Kalam was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour. To mark Kalam’s first death anniversary, Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu and Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday unveiled his life-size statue in Rameswaram.
