BJP senior leader and former EAM Sushma Swaraj passed away on Tuesday night at AIIMS. She suffered a massive cardiac arrest and was immediately taken to the hospital where she was declared dead within minutes. The news came as shock to the nation as she was one of the most popular and iconic female politicians of the country. She became a member of the Haryana Legislative Assembly from the year 1977 to 1982 at the age of just 25 years. She also sworn in as a Cabinet Minister in the Janata Party government under the Chief Minister Devi Lal which, making her as the youngest to do so.
She also became New Delhi’s first female Chief Minister in October 1998 but she resigned from the post soon in December the same year.
She was also a Union Cabinet Minister for Information and Broadcasting during the 13-day government of PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1996.
She won the 2009 election from the Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency in Madhya Pradesh by the highest margin of over 400,000 votes. Sushma Swaraj became Leader of Opposition in the 15th Lok Sabha.
Sushma Swaraj also served as the Minister of External Affairs under PM Narendra Modi from May 2014. She was the second woman to hold the position after Indira Gandhi. She was also responsible for bringing the role of digital activeness into the politics of India.
