PM Modi joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at age of eight, later he met Lakshmanrao Inamdar, popularly known as Vakil Saheb, who inducted him as a balswayamsevak (junior cadet) for RSS and became his political mentor.
As a child, PM Modi helped his father sell tea at the Vadnagar railway station, and later ran a tea stall with his brother near a bus terminus.
On 26 June 1975, when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency, Modi was forced to go underground in Gujarat to avoid arrest as he was pracharak in-charge of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the RSS.
On October 3, 2001, he replaced Keshubhai Patel as Chief Minister of Gujarat, with the responsibility of preparing the BJP for the December 2002 elections.
Narendra Modi was sworn in as Prime Minister of India on 26 May 2014. He became the first Indian Prime Minister to invite all South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation leaders to attend his swearing-in ceremony.
