Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hosted the National Sports awardees, including Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu and bronze winner Sakshi Malik, at his 7 Race Course Road residence here. The PM greeted the athletes on the eve of the National Sports Day. Besides shuttler Sindhu and wrestler Sakshi, ace shooter Jitu Rai and trailblazing gymnast Dipa Karmakar were also in attendance.
PM Modi said, delighted to meet you PV Sindhu. Every Indian is so proud of what you accomplished.

He also praised Jitu’s efforts and achievements. 'Meeting the skilled, talented & determined @JituRai was wonderful. Best wishes for his future endeavours.'
'You are an inspiration for so many people Sakshi Malik. Keep making us proud with your achievements,' PM Modi tweeted.
Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel was also present at the meeting. Along with Sindhu and Malik, shooter Jitu Rai, gymnast Dipa Karmakar, Khel Ratna awardees, Dhyan Chand awardees, Dronacharya awardees, and Tenzing Norgay awardees also met the Prime Minister.
PM Modi then took to Twitter to speak about the meeting, saying: "Our sportspersons, our pride! Met Arjuna Award winners and congratulated them."
