IPL 2018: Suresh Raina's runs to Malinga's wickets,10 Indian Premier League records in 10 years

The opening ceremony of the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will kick off with defending champions Mumbai Indians and two-time champions Chennai Super Kings on April 7 in Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium. Earlier, the inaugural ceremony was scheduled on April 6, with the first match on April 7. The CSK team is returning to the league after a two-year suspension imposed on it. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Suresh Raina is an IPL legend who has played the most number of Indian Premier Leauge matches (161) and runs (4540) at an excellent strike-rate of 139.09. In IPL 2018, Raina will be seen playing for Chennai Super Kings. Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli comes second in terms of runs scored.

West Indies Chris Gayle is the King of T20 cricket as he holds the record for the highest individual score in an IPL match with his 175-run knock off 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors in the 2013 edition of IPL.Jamaican opener broke the record set by Brendon McCullum in the opening match of the first season with his 158 runs while playing for Kolkata Knight Rider.

Mumbai Indian's Lasith Malinga holds a record of taking 154 wickets in the IPL which is highest by a margin of 30. Malinga has taken 154 wickets at an average of 19.01 in 110 IPL matches, while his best performance has been 5 wickets at 13 runs. Meanwhile, in IPL 2018 auction he attracted no bidder has led to Malinga contemplating retirement after a stellar career with MI that consists of 3 IPL titles and 2 Champions League trophies.

Pakistan's Sohail Tanvir holds the record for best bowling figures, with his 6 for 14 runs against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2008. On March 24, 2008, Tanvir sent the pavilion to six Chennai batsmen and the entire team of Chennai got reduced to 109. Rajasthan's team won the match by 8 wickets with 34 balls. Tanvir had previously bagged the highest 22 wickets in IPL.

MS Dhoni, who is back at the helm of Chennai Super Kings in the 2018 Indian Premier League, holds the record for playing the highest number of matches as captain. He has played 143 matches as a captain between 2008 and 2017 in which he has led Chennai Super Kings, and Pune Supergiants in IPL 2016.

Kolkata Knight Riders, Shah Rukh Khan's franchise holds the record for highest margin of victory in an IPL match. In 2008, KKR defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 140 runs in the opening game. In the match, the former Kiwi captain Brendon McCullum smashed 158 runs off 73 balls.

Virat Kohli's Rajasthan Royals had achieved the target of 217 runs against Deccan Chargers and have registered this record. This record was made in 2008 and is till date not overtaken by any other team.

Rajasthan Royal holds the record for the highest team total also holds the record for the lowest and this might sound ironical. RCB under the captaincy of Virat Kohli was bowled out for only 49 runs by the Kolkata Knight Riders in their chase of 132 runs in an IPL 2009 match.

Shah Rukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders hold the record for the most number of consecutive wins. The team won 10 ties on the trot in the 2014-2015 season of IPL.
