Indian badminton is on a roll at the ongoing World Badminton Championship and star player Saina Nehwal along with Kidambi Srikanth, B Sai Praneeth and Ajay Jayaram entered the pre-quarterfinals of the competition. Saina scripted a straightforward 21-11, 21-12 victory over her Swiss opponent Sabrina Jaquet as she displayed tremendous skill on the court. She will next take on second seed Sung Ji Hyun, who defeated India’s Tanvi Lad 21-9 21-19. The 2010 Commonwealth Games champion has a 7-2 head-to-head record against the Korean and most recently she beat her at the Australian Open in June.

P V Sindhu, seeded fourth, has made it clear that she wants to improve the colour of the medal from bronze at 2013 and 2014 World Championships to something better. She was in total control of her match against Korean Kim Hyo Min and her match won 21-16, 21-14 in 49 minutes. With this victory, she also advanced to the second round of the World Badminton Championships.

World No. 8 Kidambi Srikanth also dished out a clinical performance, beating Lucas 21-9 21-17 to set up a clash with 14th seed Anders Antonsen of Denmark in the World Badminton Championships.

The good run for the Indians continued as Singapore Open champion B Sai Praneeth bounced back from a game down to outwit World No. 26 Indonesian Anthony 14-21 21-18 21-19 in the World Badminton Championships.

Ajay Jayaram

Ajay Jayaram too kept India's hopes alive in the singles section of the tournament. He surged past Austrian Luka Wraber 21-14 21-12 in 31 minutes and will meet Dutchman Mark Caljouw next.
