Rio Olympics 2016: Head to head P V Sindhu and Carolina Marin

P. V. Sindhu is up against World No. 1 Carolina Marin in a historic match which will be played on Friday. Sindhu has expressed her strong will and determination by saying that she will be going for gold in the final clash. Let’s take a look at the comparison between the two.

The Spaniard Carolina is also known as Girl Nadal as she is left handed and is currently at number one spot. She has won four of her seven encounters between the two, with Sindhu winning the other three. Marin defeated Sindhu 21-17, 21-9 in their last encounter at the Hong Kong Super series in November 2015.

Marin plays at a high pace and develops tough angles, she is very combative in her approach. Marin has a team headed by Coach Fernando Rivas, a master strategist, in her corner. 

She plays with nimble feet, powerful smash, cross court shots, and has balance between aggression and staying cool under pressure.

Sindhu is in top form in this Olympics and this will be her strength against a tough opponent as Carolina. Sindhu is right handed and plays the game steadily. With a methodical style of play, Sindhu is considered to be defensive, relying on building long rallies. She is also good on smashes and backhand shots.

In Rio Olympics she is playing more of attacking game thereby putting pressure on her opponent.

Sindhu’s height is also a massive advantage for her. As long as she stays around the three-quarter court area, she doesn’t need to take a back step to Okuhara’s clears and can hit her own steep winners across court.
